Delhi Wakf Board to profile imams, muazzins

Amidst the wave of raids at madrasas, mosques and Muslim localities in the wake of terrorist bombings across the country and recently one in New Delhi, the Delhi Wakf Board has decided to compile all necessary information about Imams, Muazzins and students attached with board-run madrasas and mosques in the national capital.

The decision has been taken in view of investigations by security and intelligence agencies after every terrorist bombing. The programme is aimed at giving protection to these people and also to help agencies if needed.

Profile of every new imam, muazzin and student will be maintained. The information about those who are already working is with the board, he said.

It has been seen that immediately after a terrorist attack or bombing, imams, and students and teachers of madrasas come under police surveillance. Many are arrested and interrogated. Many were arrested after Jaipur serial blasts in May this year.

I see this as a positive move in the right direction..Isuues can only be solved collectively..and I believe faithful followers of religions, may ir be islam or hinduism or christianity, they can take care of each’s own community, thereby helping the government in bringing better social order..

  1. thats a lovely step…infact I think every such organisation should do it. It will go a long way in helping the investigative agencies as well as protect the innocent.

It is indeed a good thought.

People who hold such august offices need to be good people as well.

Moreover, if the profiling is done by the Waqf board, it will not give offense.

@Milind,yeah true..Since the Wakf board is doing this, people can’t stereotype as if somebody else is imposing on muslims..I hope muslims scholars and leaders will again and again come up with good steps…
