Controversy surrounding mosque near Ground Zero

Controversy surrounding mosque near Ground Zero

There is a building two blocks from ground zero which has become a matter of controversy in the news media in recent days. This five story building formerly housed a department store which closed after the damage on September 11th 2001. The Muslim –run real estate company Soho Properties purchased the property in July 2009 for $4.85 million dollars and is planning to develop into a 13- story building costing $ 100 million to be named, “Cordoba House.” It will contain tremendous amount of resources that otherwise would not exist in lower Manhattan; a 500-seat auditorium, swimming pool, art exhibition space, bookstore, restaurant. All these services would form a cultural nexus for a region of New York City that, as it continues to grow, requires the sort of hub that Cordoba House will provide. Due to presence of the mosque on the last floor of this building, it has become a target of attack by Islamophobic individuals which has generated enormous amount of News media coverage.

.
This project is a brain child of the American Society for Muslim Advancement and Cordoba Initiative. Cordoba Initiative alone is an Islamic organization that aims to achieve a tipping point in Muslim-West relations within the next decade, steering the world back to the course of mutual recognition, respect and away from heightened tension.

.
This proposed project is about promoting integration, tolerance of difference and community cohesion through arts and culture. Cordoba House will provide a place where individuals, regardless of their background, will find a center of learning, art and culture: and most importantly, a center guided by Islamic value in their truest form-compassion, generosity, and respect for all.

.
Imam Faisal Abdul Rauf, CEO of Cordoba Initiative and Imam of Masjid al-Farah, a New York city Mosque for 25 years, author of three Islamic books commented that “The closest Mosque to this area is a dozen blocks away and very overcrowded but this site was also chosen for exactly what happened here on 9/11 and what America stands for. Definitely, this is a victory of American Tolerance over hatred.” There are about one million Muslims living in the metro New York area of which 1000-2000 work within a few blocks of this building. They have been praying in the make shift unit since purchase of the building.

.
The preliminary plan for the project was unveiled publicly in front of finance committee of the local community board. Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer is among many political and religious leaders who support Cordoba House. He was present where members voted 29 to 1 in favor of the project. He also commented, “These are haters. These are people from the Tea Party who attacked me and others individuals and tried to make this about bigotry and hatred.” Stringer referred to the disparaging comments made by a body of the right wing Tea Party movement, Mark Williams, who has called Cordoba House, “A monument to 9/11 attackers to worship the terrorist’s monkey-god”. Because of this and other racially charged comment about African-Americans, he has been stripped of his membership in the Tea Party Movement.

.
This project has support of many Christians, Jews, and Politicians but has also generated passion and anger by the other side. Islamophobia is rampant on the internet. Page after page is full of negative comment on Islam and Muslims. People, who are opposed to this project, forget that more than 200 Muslims also died at ground zero. While most of republican are against this project, democrats including NY Democratic Gubernatorial Candidate Andrew Cuomo and NY Mayor have supported this project.

.
Mayor of New York City Michael Bloomberg said the following in recent radio address: If somebody wants to build a religious house of worship, they should do it and we shouldn’t be in the business of picking which religions can and which religion can’t. I think it’s fair to say if somebody was going to try to on that piece of property build a church or a synagogue, nobody would be yelling and screaming. And the fact of the matter is that Muslims have a right to do it too.”

.
Juan Cole, a blogger wrote “Forbidding the building of a mosque in New York is inconsistent with the ideals of the Founding Generation of the United States of America who explicitly mentioned Islam among the cases when they spoke of religious freedom.

.
These kinds of hysterical reactions have not been uncommon throughout the US. At many places Muslims have curtailed or abandoned their mosque building efforts because of opposition by the local residents. At other places however, they have fought and succeeded. Much of credit for these victories also goes to moderate mainstream Americans who are generally fair minded and have been supportive and friendly.

.
A 2006 USA Today/gallop poll found that 44 percent Americans think that Muslims are too extreme in their religious belief, while 22 percent said they would not want a Muslim as a neighbor. There is a lot of misunderstanding about our belief and practices as well as this project and what it represents. Due to misinformation, many people think that Mosque will be built exactly on Ground Zero. While in reality it only occupies one floor of the 13 story building which is devoted to worship to meet the need of the people working in the area. This entire 13- story building is not a Mosque.

.
We must point out clearly the differences between Muslim extremism and mainstream Islam. It is important to point out that Muslims themselves are the biggest victim of Muslim extremism as can be seen in civilian death toll everyday in Iraq, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. We also have to do a better job of educating our population about these differences. Promotion of main stream Islam which emphasizes mutual understanding and wants to bridge gap between east and west can be a neutralizing force to extremism.

Ok,now tell me that criminals don’t have religion..But I hardly hear so,when the same activities are done by Muslim names. Why? RSS can shout that they have no link with terror, and I am obliged to believe it,no matter how many of its associates are arrested in several terrorists attacks.. But when a muslim-named party, forget the part that most of them are dead fish and infact do promot radicalism,I am obliged to laugh it off as bluff.. Why?

.

.

Just like the fact that only a minority of hindus are terrorists, only a minority of muslims too are so. Why can’t people agree on that?Ok,now tell me that “All muslims are not terrorists ,but all terrorists are muslims” and bla bla bla… Well, I know I am  being saddistic  and though I condemn all those criminal acts done by people,no matter which religion they belong to, these blasts and consequent investigations have made me happy that atleast the above quoted statement have been proved wrong.. Now not all terrorists are muslims.. They can be Hindus  and Maoists too…Praise be to India..

.

.

.

Until and unless you take away the baggage of  terrorism, from my religious identity ,please excuse me,I am going to fall into your fallacy of  “Terror has no religion”..

The art of preserving religion by chopping hands of a sicko..

A private college lecturer, out on bail after being arrested for preparing an alleged inflammatory question paper that had triggered protests by Muslims, was attacked and his right palm severed by unidentified persons at Muvattupuzha in the district today, police said.

The lecturer, T J Joseph, was dragged out of his car and hacked with sharp weapons by the assailants while he was returning from a church along with his family, including his sister and mother. His right palm was severed while he suffered cut injuries in his left leg, they said.

A statement from groups including the All India Milli Council and All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat described the attack as un-Islamic. “We find that the attack on the Kerala lecturer is against the basic tenets of Islam and the Sunnah of the Prophet which emphasis on forgiveness. Islam explicitly forbids taking law and order into one’s hands in the presence of competent authorities to deal with an issue. We hope that law will take its due course to punish the criminals who attacked the professor. They have clearly sinned and defamed Islam by committing this crime which we condemn without reservations.” Read more :

I had a post when this incident happened two months ago.

Anybody interested to know what was the small mistake the so-called professor did?

Use Punctuation:

Muhammed : “God ,God”.. ( literally ‘padachone padachone’,a term used by muslims to call Allah)

God: ”   What is it you son of a bitch”

Muhammed: “God,How many pieces do we get from a cut mackerel”

God : “Dog,how many times have I told you that it is three”

.
.
I pity those people ,those so-called  guardians of Prophet, for they think that Allah’s messenger is as silly or as weak as a yellow leaf, which is awaiting to merge with earth, upon a breeze..Forget the rant of media that this man is a so-called professor ,for I have never heard or seen of real teachers who use obsence language in test-papers.He is not even worth to be protested against, for his sole intention seems to be TRP and thus easy fame. Though I don’t feel sorry for his hand ,I am ashamed of your evil barbaric act. Afterall this man has just spoke dirty words..Go straighten your own men who kill others all in the name of religion and then set out to straighten others. I don’t have anything to say, except a hadith to those people who did it,all in the name of the Prophet you claim to love and support..
.
.
Everyday, before the Prophet  left his house to go to the Kabah, an elderly  jewish woman would throw trash in front of the path of the Prophe out of disrespect and because she didn’t like the message that the Prophet was preaching.
.
One day, the Prophet  was leaving his house and he didn’t notice any garbage in his path and so he thought that maybe the old lady was sick, and that is why she was unable to throw her garbage this particular day, and so he went and visited her.
.
When this elderly lady first saw the Prophet  , she was scared, because she knew what she had been doing.
.
She asked why he had come. The Prophet  responded by saying that he knew that everyday she would throw garbage in his path, and today he didn’t find any garbage in his path, so he thought she might’ve been sick and that’s why he came to visit her.
.
This response of the Prophet  softened the heart of this non-muslim lady and she was convinced that the Prophet  is truly a messenger of Allah, and she uttered the shahadah.[……]
.
And a final word to my dear readers..Is this incident a politically or otherwise a  religiously motivated and executed one? I strongly believe that it is more of a poltiical act than a religious one..

Why Zakir Naik is both right and wrong

Zakir Naik is one among the few, very few people, whose talks  come down to larger mass .. I have hardly heard or read of any other scholar other than Zakir Naik and Yusuf-al-Qardawi (blame it on my poor reading). Its been little more than 5 years that I started reading Zakir Naik. Some of his orations are good, like ‘Is terrorism a muslim monopoly’ and like.I had been a fan of him,but as time passed,as I read more and more of him, well, honestly speaking,I find many of his speeches absurd..

The most ridiculous one is his version of polygamy, when he says that ‘ In Western society, it is common for a man to have mistresses and/or multiple  extra-marital affairs, in which case, the woman leads a disgraceful, unprotected life. The same society, however, cannot accept a man having more than one wife, in which women retain their honourable, dignified position in society and lead a protected life.

Thus the only two options before a woman who cannot find a husband is to marry a married man or to become ‘public property’. Islam prefers giving women the honourable position by permitting the first option and disallowing the second. ”

What prevents a women from remaining single..His argument is an insult to womenhood.Agreed that being a mistress is disrespectful, but ‘Public Property’..B******t

Most annoyingly, some of his views are radical and wrong. He rants about comparing Islam to 2+2=4 and other faiths to 2+2=3.Considering the fact that he is a medical doctor,I wonder what made him say such nonsense.. The mathematical eqtn he is talking about is a universal truth, whereas religious beliefs are relative truth..If my God true to me,it needn’t be to another person. And it is high time he stop generalizing that all people except muslims are in wrong path..Nobody,even Prophet said so. Can Mr Zakir Naik please tell me whether wasn’t it Prophet Muhammad(pbuh) who said this?

“This is a message from Muhammad ibn Abdullah, as a covenant to those who adopt Christianity, near and far, we are with them.  Verily I, the servants, the helpers, and my followers defend them, because Christians are my citizens; and by God!  I hold out against anything that displeases them.

No compulsion is to be on them.  Neither are their judges to be removed from their jobs nor their monks from their monasteries.  No one is to destroy a house of their religion, to damage it, or to carry anything from it to the Muslims’ houses.  Should anyone take any of these, he would spoil God’s covenant and disobey His Prophet.  Verily, they are my allies and have my secure charter against all that they hate.

No one is to force them to travel or to oblige them to fight.  The Muslims are to fight for them.  If a female Christian is married to a Muslim, it is not to take place without her approval.  She is not to be prevented from visiting her church to pray.  Their churches are declared to be protected.  They are neither to be prevented from repairing them nor the sacredness of their covenants.  No one of the nation (Muslims) is to disobey the covenant till the Last Day (end of the world).”

Again, his comparison of human beings eating pork,to that of filthy animals,is sick..If he don’t like pork, let him stay away, why bother about others? If they aren’t bothered about tapeworm and red-content,let them have it.Why utter rubbish? (Don’t give me lecture that tapeworms can be killed by 100% cooking,I know it already)

And Zakir Naik says that apostates should be put to death.I have some idea of Quran, and nowhere have I seen Allah asking human beings to hang apostates, rather there are 3 verses that talk about people who trun away from religion, yet there is no reference to killing them..

And it goes on like that.. I don’t support Zakir Naik, nor do I support the ban.Is this the kind of freedom of expression that Britain ,and west in general is damn proud of? I thought it was Saudi Arabia and Afghanistan, who did acts like this.If they don’t support something, they ban it.Indeed an easy task.

If we condemn fatwa against Salman Rusdie, what makes this ban any diffferent? What irks me always is that how super-powers,who are champions of liberal and progressive thoughts, define the concept of “Freedom of Speech”.At least 909,681 people have been killed in Afghanistan and Iraq alone ,since the U.S. and coalition attacks, based on lowest credible estimates, all in the name of democracy and freedom of speech of their nation.About 303 times as many people have been killed in Afghanistan and Iraq than in the ghastly attacks of September 11, 2001.More than 130 times as many people have been killed in these wars and occupations than in all terrorist attacks in the world from 1993-2004, according to data compiled by the US State Department.

So what if Zakir Naik as a person,as an individual, shouted against these super-powers ?Is he wrong in saying that Nato forces are terrorists toIraqis and Afghanis? It is his mistake that he tried to attach religion to his arguments.Otherwise, what he says is right, the rich are terrorizing the poor ans weak nation..Am I wrong? He seems to be funded by Saudi, which takes away any of the goodness present in his doings..But anyway, there has to be somebody to shout thet truth.Super-powers are terrorists in many nations. Our turn too will come, wait for that day dear Indians..Till then you can sing ga-ga-ri about such terrorizing nations.

Mr Zakir Naik and his associates should be glad that they live and work in a wonderful country like Inida, where else would you find tolerance and fredom to move around like this? Go try the other version of your oration in your mentor nation,Saudi..If you talk a word against them, nobody, even your breath would  know when and how they will pack you underneath soil.

I have a suggestion for Zakir Naik..If UK doesn’t need you,go to countries like Pakistan,Bangladesh,Nigeria ,Sudan,Algeria,Afghanistan,Niger,  Burkina Faso,Mali,  Senegal,Tunisia , Guinea , Somalia , Azerbaijan ,  Tajikistan ,Sierra ,Leone,Libya etc etc etc ,which are muslim majority countries.. Set muslims straight first, and then bother about non-muslim’s fate and their afterlife..And yes,I suggest you to improvise muslim conditions not only through religious classes, but also by showing them a way to live this life in earth..

Finally,I have a qstn to my readers, does Dr. Zakir Naik really “foment justify or glorify terrorist violence” or “seek to provoke others to terrorist acts?” You be the judge!

OFFICIAL STATEMENT ISSUED JUNE 17, 2010

Following on from recent malicious and specious reports in the British media about my work, a press release was issued dated 11th June 2010.
Further to this I am disappointed to learn the British Government has decided to exclude me from coming to the United Kingdom to conduct a Peace Conference Tour between 25th-27th June 2010.
Despite this I intend to continue my work of interfaith dialogue; Coming together upon common terms with other people and faith groups to promote a greater understanding of the binding strands existing between the faiths, whilst dispelling fears, suspicions and misconceptions about the beautiful faith of Islam, that have been created by a media frenzy of Islamophobia.
I encourage all Muslims to serve their country with dignity and honour and my message to vulnerable young British Muslims is that terrorism and violent extremism, is totally unacceptable and has no place in Islamic life.
I would urge the British Government to permit the Peace Conference Tour to continue as scheduled and assist in the promotion of Peace and social harmony, whilst upholding the values of freedom and justice.
– Dr Zakir Naik – 17th June 2010 [Source : http://www.islamnewsroom.com]

What had Dr Zakir Naik said one week before he was banned?

“I have spoken out on numerous occasions against all and any acts of terrorism and I have unequivocally condemned such acts of violence; acts including 9/11, 7/7 and 7/11 (serial train bombings in Mumbai) which are completely and absolutely unjustifiable on any basis,” eminent Islamic scholar Dr Zakir Naik had said on June 11, exactly a week before he was banned (June 18) from entering Britain for his alleged support to terrorism and “unacceptable behavior”.
Dr Naik had issued his signed statement in response to media reports in Britain preceding his scheduled visit (June 18-28), portraying him as “Preacher of Hate” and “Terror Backer”.
“I believe recent press reports in the UK media have given a warped and wholly unjustified impression of my work by portraying me as “Preacher of Hate” and “Terror Backer”. I categorically reject as falsehoods any such allegations. These are totally untrue and a misrepresentation of the truth. It appears these sensational headlines have been based on some of my quotes that have been given either without the relevant context or are completely wrong. It is clear from my talks, that in Islam, terrorism; the killing of innocent civilians is completely forbidden and as such I have unequivocally stated that no Muslim should be a terrorist.”
Dr Zakir Naik had clearly stated that during his UK tour he will give a message of peace and a clear and concise message to young British Muslims that terrorism and violent extremism, including suicide bombings killing innocent civilians have no place in Islam.
My tour to the UK will be focused on delivering a message of peace based on Islamic values and bridging the gap of understanding between the major faiths. My visit will include engaging in constructive and positive dialogue between members of different communities and to dispel the misconceptions of Islam. I will be delivering a message of peace, unity respect and tolerance for any differences that may prevail. I also understand the sensitivities and current difficult climate prevailing within the west and therefore my tour will also include a clear and concise message to young British Muslims that terrorism and violent extremism, including suicide bombings killing innocent civilians, is totally unacceptable and has no place in Islamic life, based on the Glorious Quran and the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad.”

“I hope to reach out to all youngsters and persons generally who promote confrontation and violence in the name of Islam; to engage in peaceful and constructive discussion with other communities, authorities and government to deal with any issues or grievances they may be fostering,” Dr Naik said in his June 11 statement on the letterhead of Mumbai-based Islamic Research Foundation that he heads.
He had said that he was discussing with lawyers in UK seeking legal remedy for his distorted image in the British media.
“It appears that some of the quotes have been taken from edited and manipulated excerpts uploaded onto the you-tube website including a talk that I delivered in 1996 in Singapore which was prior to the 9/11 atrocity. I am currently seeking advice from lawyers in the UK on the legal remedy and actions in the light of these reports.”
But ignoring his clarification about his views on terrorism and the purpose of his UK visit, the British government decided to ban him from entering UK the day he was scheduled to – June 18.
Announcing the ban, British Home Secretary Theresa May said: “Numerous comments made by Dr Naik are evidence to me of his unacceptable behaviour.” She further said: “Coming to the UK is a privilege, not a right and I am not willing to allow those who might not be conducive to the public good to enter the UK.”
BBC quoted a spokesman for Dr Zakir Naik as describing the move “deeply regrettable”. The UK government had bowed to pressure from certain groups to exclude him, he said. The spokesman further said Dr Naik had been holding talks in the UK for 15 years and the decision to bar his entry was disappointing.
Meanwhile the Muslim Council of Britain has deplored British Government move to ban Dr. Zakir Naik from entering UK. The Council said UK Home Secretary Theresa May’s action “serves to demonise the very voices within the world ready for debate and discussion.” [Source : Two Circles]

Zakir Naik’s reply to the ban imposed..

This is with reference to an exclusion order issued to Dr Zakir Naik by the British Home Office, UK Border Agency, dated 16th June 2010.

Dr Zakir Naik, the illustrious and eminent speaker from Mumbai, India, is respected and revered throughout the world for his enlightening and convincing efforts promoting similarities between major faiths based on converging values for a common platform of Peace, using the binding commonalities that exist between the religious scriptures including the Bible, Vedas, Torah and Glorious Qur’an.

Following on from recent malicious and specious reports in the British media about the work of Dr Zakir Naik, we are disappointed to learn the British Government has decided to exclude him from visiting the United Kingdom to conduct a Peace Conference Tour between 25th-27th June 2010.

It is deeply regrettable the British Government has bowed to pressure from sectarian and Islamophobic pressure groups by preventing the entry of Dr Zakir Naik, who has been visiting and delivering talks in the United Kingdom for the past 15 years.

In the wake of these inaccurate press reports, Dr Zakir Naik issued a press release in the United Kingdom dated 11th June 2010 which is attached herewith.

The exclusion order issued by the Secretary of Home Department UK, appears to rely mainly on the following four extracts from various talks by Dr Zakir Naik which they found objectionable;

Extract of Quote 1

“As far as terrorist is concerned, I tell the Muslims that every Muslim should be a terrorist… What is the meaning of the word terrorist? Terrorist by definition means a person who terrorises. When a robber sees a policeman he’s terrified. So for a robber, a policeman is a terrorist. So in this context every Muslim should be a terrorist to the robber… Every Muslim should be a terrorist to each and every anti-social element. I’m aware that terrorist more commonly is used for a person who terrorises an innocent person. In this context, no Muslim should even terrorise a single innocent human being. The Muslims should selectively terrorise the anti-social element, and many times, two different labels are given to the same activity of the same individual …  Before any person gives any label to any individual for any of his actions, we have to first analyse, for what reason is he doing that?” (Source – video google)

Extract of Quote 2

“Beware of Muslims saying Osama Bin Laden is right or wrong, I reject them… we don’t know. But if you ask my view, if given the truth, if he is fighting the enemies of Islam, I am for him. I don’t know what he’s doing. I’m not in touch with him. I don’t know him personally. I read the newspaper. If he is terrorizing the terrorist, if he is terrorizing America the terrorist, the biggest terrorist, he’s following Islam” (Source – You Tube – 2006)

Extract of Quote 3

“How can you ever justify killing innocent people? But in the same breath as condemning those responsible we must also condemn those responsible for the deaths of thousands of innocent people in Iraq, Afghanistan and Lebanon” (As reported by the Manchester Evening News, 21 August 2006 as part of a speech you gave at the Expo Islamia conference in Manchester.

Extract of Quote 4

“strongest in enmity towards the Muslims are the Jews and the pagans…. It [the Quran] does not say that the Muslims should fight with the Jews… the Jews, by nature as a whole, will be against Muslims… there are many Jews who are good to Muslims, but as a whole … The Quran tells us, as whole, they will be our staunchest enemy” (Peace TV, recorded on You – Tube)

The clarification of these quotes, provided by the British Home Office, is cited below:

Clarification of Quote 1

The context of the quote given was against an article according to The Times of India newspaper, Mumbai edition, (Times News Network, Wednesday August 20, 2003).

“Mr. Angre is amongst the five officers, who between them, have gunned down more than 300 alleged criminals in the past five years. The very mention of their names evokes terror in the underworld”.

Dr Naik said; “…The moment the underworld hear the name of Inspector Angre, they are terrified, so Inspector Angre of the Mumbai Police Force is a terrorist for the underworld of Mumbai”.

Therefore after reading the extract of the quote in context provided by the British Home Office from one of the Dr Zakir Naik’s talks, any sensible and logical person would not object as the extract quoted is self explanatory.

Clarification of Quote 2

Many journalists ask Dr Zakir Naik regarding his views about Osama Bin Laden. Due to the fact that he [Osama Bin Laden] has not been convicted in respect of 9/11 and as Dr Zakir Naik cannot verify the claims against him, he neither considers him a saint nor a terrorist.

There is not a single statement of Dr Zakir Naik after 9/11 in which he has praised Osama Bin Laden or supported his activities.

With regards to the extract of a quote on Osama Bin Laden taken from a video on YouTube, this clip was taken from a lecture Dr Zakir Naik delivered in Singapore in 1996, almost five years before 9/11 and not in 2006, as has been posted.

It is therefore not possible to link this quote to Osama Bin Laden in the context of the 9/11, when the atrocity had not taken place; and took place after almost 5 years in 2001.

The lecture was recorded by some local people [in Singapore] and was later edited and uploaded on You Tube by a prejudiced group. Unless and until we have the rushes (original unedited tapes) of the program, it is not possible to know which portions of the lecture have been edited.

It is therefore not reasonable, in the light of Dr Zakir Naik’s known views about 9/11 and all other atrocities such as 7/7 (London, UK) and 7/11 (serial train bomb blast in Mumbai, India) to link these manipulated and very old comments to recent world events.

Dr Zakir Naik has emphatically and regularly condemned any and all persons responsible for these appalling atrocities, killing innocent civilians.

Clarification of Quote 3

It appears the British Home Office has quoted Dr Zakir Naik only condemning attacks on Iraq, Afghanistan and Lebanon from the article published in Manchester Evening News on 21st August 2006.

However, the same article also reported Dr Zakir Naik condemning and criticizing the atrocities of New York (9/11), London (7/7) and Mumbai serial train bombers (7/11) before he condemns the attacks on Iraq, Afghanistan and Lebanon “in the same breath”. The context of which is cited below:

“However, Dr Zakir Naik, described by organizers as “the most sought after Muslim public speaker in the world”, criticized the actions of the New York, London and Bombay bombers”. (Manchester Evening News 21.08.06).

Clarification of Quote 4

Dr Zakir Naik was quoting from the Glorious Qur’an which says in Surah Ma’idah; chapter 5: Verse 82;

“Strongest amongst men in enmity to the Believers will thou find the Jews and the Pagans; and nearest among them in love to the Believers will thou find those who say, “We are Christians”.

In this context Dr Zakir Naik said “strongest in enmity towards the Muslims are the Jews and the pagans…. It [Qur’an] does not say the Muslims should fight with the Jews… the Jews, by nature as a whole, will be against Muslims…. there are many Jews who are good to Muslims, but as a whole …The Qur’an tells us, as a whole, they will be our staunchest enemy.”

Dr Zakir Naik has fervently criticized Adolf Hitler in many of his lectures as the greatest terrorist in the human history for his anti-Jewish policies and his atrocities for incinerating six million Jews.

As a student of comparative religion, Dr Zakir Naik has worked tirelessly for the common good amongst people of all faiths engaging in constructive debate and dialogue. These discussions have been hugely successful and have resulted in much progress towards a better understanding of Islam as well as enhanced harmony between people of different beliefs, dispelling fears, suspicions and misunderstandings.

Dr Zakir Naik is undoubtedly an opponent of terrorism and as such has often spoken out against all acts of violence and violent extremism. He has emphatically and unequivocally condemned the killing of civilians and is one of the world’s regular noted orators on this topic.

In the wake of the exclusion order and based on legal advice, Dr Zakir Naik intends to bring the matter before the High Court of the United Kingdom and request a Judicial Review to have the exclusion order overturned.

We would request the Indian authorities to engage with and make representations to the British Government about the excellent services and work of Dr Zakir Naik in promoting Peace and social harmony worldwide. We would propose the Indian Government to encourage the British Home Office to revoke the exclusion order and permit the Peace Conference Tour to continue as scheduled, whilst upholding the values of freedom and justice.

My take …on another post….

…of Love and Love jihad

A: I hate readiing newspapers, but these days,I can’t take my head out of it..Its all so exciting news..

Me: Uh,what is it so exciting..All I read is about Maoists,VS,and lot of accidents,I don’t find them exciting.

A: Didn’t you read about Love Jihad?

Me: What is that?

A: It is an organisation that aims at converting girls through love  marriage is functioning in Kerala. Hundreds of girls have been converted by this organisation through this strategy. This organisation makes use of groups of boys belonging to a particular religious faith. They are taught how to lure girls coming from different religious persuasions. They have been ordered to leave those girls who do not fall into their “love trap” within two weeks. Further, the organisation orders their followers to marry them within a short period of six month and to have at least four childrenThe “Love Jihad” organisation provides their members with mobile phones, motor cycles, good clothing, etc. for more effective allurment of girls.

Me: What the heck…Are Hindu /Christian girls, and in this case educated ones in particular,so gullible that anybody who pass by can trap them using mobile phones and battas?

A: That’s not it in complete.Various organisations have started campaging against this Love Jihad.Didn’t you read that The Kerala Catholic Bishops’ Conference (KCBC), the umbrella organisation of all the bishops of the Catholic rites of Kerala, has started awareness campaigns to teach Christian girls and parents about the dangers of the “holy war of love” by certain Islamic groups. The council asks the parents to be on the alert at all times about the responses of their daughters, so that the danger of their falling into the Love Jehad trap could be avoided. Both Hindu and Christian girls are falling prey to the design. So we are cooperating with the VHP on tackling this. We will work together to whatever extent possible.

Me : But…

A : Wait, let me complete..Pramod Muthalik, the whole sale protector  of Hindu culture has said that Sri Ram Sena has,  braced itself to protect this country and their sisters and would soon start nation-wide agitations against this issue. Sri Ram Sena will, however, not take law in its hand; but if the Government prefers to ignore them, they will have no option but to follow the same path as done in ‘pub’ issue in Karnataka.

Me : OhI know how they handled the pub issue.. 🙄

A: They say that more than 4000 girls have been converted this way..

Me :What is the source?

A :Don’t ask unnecessary questions you silly girl..

Me : 🙄

A: So that you may know,Shri Rama Sene will launch a nation-wide `Save our daughters, save India’ campaign, beginning in Karnataka, against `love jihad’.

Me :Ha ha,I am glad that atleast some people are working towards the progressivness of Hindu and Christian girls..It is sad  that muslim girls are doomed and have nobody to help them when they marry out of caste..Ok,now stop overloading me with news bits ,and tell me in detail what this drama of love is all about.

A :Ok,I ‘ll explain..It all started with a love story of Silja Raj (23), a civil engineering graduate, who ran away with Ashkar,a taxi driver. She married him and later converted to Islam.Relatives enter the scene, they file complaint aginst Ashkar for kidnapping their daughter, the court intervenes,Silja says that the two were in love and that she came to him on her own and that she doesn’t want to go with her parents. But strangely, the court  asked the Karnataka DGP and IG to conduct investigation into the matter (including any role of ‘love jihad’) and to submit a report by November 13. The girl was asked to stay with her parents till that time.

Me: Hey hey, whatz that? She is 23,legally an adult..Then how can the court make an order infringing a human’s basic freedom and right to choose what she feels is right..

A : So? this world is  load of hypocrites..Feminists and others champions of human rights rant and shout about freedom of expression, freedom of choice bla bla bla..Where were they when this happened..I am sure atleast a majority would  not have missed this news. And moreover,we hear about Talibans and Talibanization of India etc etc etc every now and then. Tell me,how does it differ from a Taliban in this particular case?

Me :Thatz not true..The PUCL will question the decision of the High Court to send the woman of 23 back to her family despite her statement in court that she had willingly converted and was waiting to get married under the provisions of the Special Marriages Act.Reacting to the order, senior advocate Ravi Varma Kumar said that it violated Article 21 (of life and personal liberty) and Article 25 (of freedom of religion) of the Indian Constitution. He cited Lata Singh vs. State of Uttar Pradesh, 2006, in which the Supreme Court upheld the right of a person who had reached the age of majority to marry of his or her own choice..Also,Kirti Singh, a Supreme Court advocate and legal convener of the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA), described the case as “absolutely shocking”. She said the question of national security was being mixed up with the simple case of a girl exercising a choice guaranteed to her under the law of the land and Constitution. “The court has taken a patriarchal role,” she said, stating that it reflected intolerance for the girl’s choices.

A: Duh,so what? Are you not a human being with common sense ? The Kerala high court had ordered probe over this matter. No organisation or movement in the name of ‘Love Jihad’ or ‘Romeo Jihad’ is functioning in Kerala, says the report submitted by Jacob Punnoose, Director General of Police, in the Kerala High Court yesterday. The report adds that no evidence has been found regarding the functioning of any such organisation dealing with forced conversion in the state..

Me: Ok,but the court is not really comfortable with that report..Let me add that like the Kerala police, the Dakshina Kannada police has also clarified that the rumour is baseless in the face of facts. The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) claims that 3,000 Hindu girls are “missing” in Dakshina Kannada and 30,000 in the rest of the state. The police have clarified that till the end of September 2009, there were reports of 404 missing girls of whom the police had traced 332. By end October, only 57 women were still missing. Furthermore, the police have clarified that where women were missing because they had eloped, there were many cases of non-Hindus as well as Hindus eloping with Hindus.

The Dakshina Kannada police also explained that in one particular case, that of a 22-year-old girl who had been missing since June and who was rumoured to have fallen victim to this so-called “Love Jehad”, in fact, she had been murdered by a Hindu man, a serial killer who confessed to his crime.

A : Fine, let the second report come.Shall we not give them ,the muslim community atleast the margin of doubt until they are all proved jihadists and terrorists?

Me :Yes,I agree..Honestly speaking,I have no idea why is this an issue all of a sudden. And moreover,I find it very offenvive when somebody says that its easy to lure me with mobile phones and motor bikes. And moreover, who are these bishops and Sanghis to teach me how to love or love my life. How can they talk about something they have no idea about? And moreover, such is the credibility of these people..In Kerala, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s mouthpiece, Janmabhumi, sacked a woman journalist who got married to a Christian and converted. They claimed they could not employ a convert because they were against conversions.

A : 🙂

Me : Also,It is well known that atheists promote intercaste marriages openly and there is an association for them. Why isn’t VHP and Churcand h not taking care of those women ? Or is it that they are only bothered about women who run away with muslim men? Double standards uh?

A : 🙂

Me :All I have to say is,please do not mix simple human love and complicated religion.. ***sigh***

P.s: I am tired of reading Love Jihad related articles and blogposts…

I am really sorry for not replying to your comments..I am online after many many days..don’t ask me why..as there is somebody around this computer engineer, who don’t like meyself using computer.. Life is strange..JFs are a load of BS..Don’t ask me to elaborate..

What have you done so far,as to wipe out the menace of terrorism?

Nobody wants to speak about terrorism until and unless a blast occurs. Once there happens such a sad incident, we all get back to attacking mode. We slam the government, we slam the religion, and we slam each other until we are bored. Again we find bliss in escapism until the cycle repeats. Maybe it’s high time that we recognize that killing those individuals will not help us for getting rid of the menace. If it had been so, there should have been peace established long before..

To me, the process of banning organizations or detain individuals makes no much difference as in concern the bigger frame. Rather than just applying corticosteroids that deludes us to feel that wound has been healed, maybe we should look and act beyond the peripheral and go deep into the psyche of the people who join these terror groups. The scenario may seem simple, but to my understanding, there are complex links between the causes of terrorism and the role various actors play in promoting and combating them. Rather than just a group of people committing a crime, recent incidents tells us more of involvement from various strata ,may it be from the bureaucratic level or by those major players of our civil society and above all, the criminal elements.

I may not be wrong when I try to list down the reasons for the support of the killer ideology as related to exclusion, injustice, alienation, helplessness, despair, ignorance and prejudice. Terrorist leaders feed on there factors and exploit them whenever they find a sympathetic audience and thus gather support for their outfits. In today’s global village, injustice in one corner can easily be used to raise support in another part of the world. That maybe the reason why we see lot of people raising their voice against the plight of Gaza-ians and Darfur-ians,even when Kashmiri Pundits of their own land are under the same plight. It may not be that they don’t care about Pundits, but lines of correlation are drawn between one’s despair and people of Gaza or Iraq. They feed on what is being fed. To a hungry cow, it doesn’t matter whether Ram or Muhammed or Jacob is feeding him. If his needs are met, he will be ready to join that side which suits him more.

If gunning down these people had helped, we would have been in a state of bliss by now.If it was that easy or simple ,wonder why we are still struggling to deal with them? Unless you kill the idea that gives birth to such elements, the problem will continue to bother you time and time again. What have we(read Government) done in the regard? As of now all that done has alienated people from the main stream resulting in further aggression or feel of discrimination. Am I wrong?

To my understanding, the only solution for this menace is to support community-driven development and thereby build the capacity of communities to resist extreme religious and political ideologies-may it be jihadist or the hindutva stuff. Why not encourage interfaith dialogues between religious and community leaders so that there is more of transparency and tolerance. On a more important note it may do wonders of our media is regulated. I needn’t rant as to what is and how is our media delivering as of today. Above all, we should give greater attention to job opportunities and education for youth as to prevent the emergence of fragile segments of population. If people have their own business to mind and are rightly informed-may it be religious or political ideologies- and with the addition of a closely knit community relations, I wonder who on earth will bother to mind others business. Finally, rather than keeping eyes closed and be in bliss, we need to analyze how the concept of ‘Global Village’ affected our nation and look into facts and understand the trend of how the various strata of our society in general are functioning. I doubt if we can say that India is really shining..

Good day to all..Do share your thoughts..

p.s:My headline for the psot seems weird, can’t think of anything better ..
